Imphal, June 01 2018:
Aggrieved by the alleged failure of me State Government to take up any action even after it had been pointed out that some major courses of National Sports University (NSU) Imphal like Sports Journalism, Sports Management, Sports Performance Analysis etc would be opened at the outlying campus of Lucknow, not at the main campus, a larger number of DESAM volunteers today vandalised the office of the Registrar and Dean's residence located at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
According to DESAM, walk-in-interview for recruitment of faculty members for the courses which would be opened at the Lucknow outlying campus has been already fixed on June 11.A large number of DESAM volunteers stormed Khuman Lampak Sports Complex at around 10.30 am and vandalised the Registrar's office, the Dean's residence and many other rooms.
Later DESAM president Salam Akash told media persons that NSU Imphal campus would exist just for name's sake if all the major courses are opened at outlying campuses.
He accused the Registrar as well as the Dean of not attending their offices on time.
Akash further asserted that the NSU Imphal Vice-Chancellor seldom stays here.
After threadbare discussion with sports activists and experts, the Government was asked to ensure that three major courses namely; Sports Journalism, Sports Management, Sports Performance Analysis are first opened at the main campus but the Government has been paying little heed which implies that they (Government) do not care for sports persons of the State, Akash alleged.
The Government has been openly deceiving the people of Manipur in their efforts to open all major courses at outlying campuses while keeping the main campus at Imphal just for name's sake, he said.
When NSU Imphal turns out to be a hopeless institution, totally plagued by lapses and sheer inefficiency after some years, people should know that Chief Minister N Biren and his Government are responsible for the mess, he said.
He added that DESAM would oppose all attempts to take away Sports Journalism, Sports Management, Sports Performance Analysis courses from Imphal to outlying campuses.
