Assn laments absence of Muslim members in drafting committee, lauds CM's assurance

Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has conveyed that the initial exclusion of Meitei-Pangal representatives in Protection of Manipur Peoples Drafting Committee is rather unfortunate.
The organisation has also lauded Chief Minister N Biren for providing assurance to induct Lilong AC MLA Abdul Nasir as a member of the committee during a meeting with the CM.
Speaking to a team of media persons at the office of MMWO in Minuthong Hafiz Hatta, president of MMWO Ph Abdullah stated that MLAs belonging to different background/communities have been inducted as members of the committee for drafting the Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, to save the indigenous people of the State, which was formed on May 23 .
However, MMWO termed the initial exclusion of Meitei Pangal representatives in the committee as disappointing.
He stated that the organisation along with MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar met with CM N Biren at his office today.
After deliberating on the matter, the CM said mat there has been some blunder regarding the exclusion of Meitei Pangal and has assured that there has been a discussion to include MLA Abdul Nasir as a member of the drafting committee.
MMWO further lauded the CM for his assurance.
The president also stated that Meitei Pangals have fought in the battles for independence of Manipur and experienced many grievances during the seven years devastation.
He also cited the participation of Meitei Pangals in the 1891 war, Nupi Lai among other battles to attain independence.
