Imphal, May 21 2014 :
Doubts have been raised over the Right to Information (RTI) Act being misused by some so-called "activists" for gaining some personal benefits.
Recently, one Md Nawaz Khan, the President of an NGO named "Rural Economic Development Agency (REDA)" located at Oinam Sawombung, submitted a representation to the Governor and Chief Minister of Manipur highlighting certain malpractices in the processing of RTI applications in the State Agriculture Department.
It was stated that some people claiming to be RTI activists in collusion with some employees of Agriculture Department have repeatedly submitted the same RTI applications for which the competent officials have already given their responses.
Nawaz pointed out that the anti-graft law has been misused by some people for earning money, and he urged the State authorities to take appropriate action against those erring RTI activists.
