SCS condoles

The Senior Citizens for Society in its meeting held today expressed deep sense of sorrow at the sad demise of Nongthonbam Kunjamohon Singh, a founding member of the Association.
Born on Nov 18, 1935 at Palarbon of Cachar, N Kunjamohon received his early education in Cachar and did MA (Economics) from Gauhati University and later joined Manipur College, Imphal as lecturer in 1962 where he served for a long time.
He later served as the Principal of Thoubal College, CI College, Bishnupur, Secretary, BSEM, CHSEM and as the Secretary of Manipur State Education Commission.
He was also closely associated with numerous literary, cultural and social organisations like Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata, Manipur State Kala Akademi, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation ertswhile Indo-Soviet Cultural Society and Indo-GDR Friendship Society, etc besides being a founding member of the SCS, Manipur.
Kunjamohon won many coveted awards including Sahitya Akademi Award (1974), Soviet and Nehru Award (1976), Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize (2004), Tagore Literature Award (2012) and Sahitya Ratna Award of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad (2014) .
The sudden demise of N Kunjamohon Singh from our midst is indeed an irreparable loss not only to his bereaved family but also to all sections of Manipuri society including the Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur, SCS press statement said.
The members also observed a two-minute silence to condole his death and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
