Anti-Terrorism Day observed

Like in other parts of the country, Anti-Terrorism Day was observed at different places if the State today with Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee observing the event at its BT road Congress Bhavan complex and Red shield Division organising various events to commemorate assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in a terrorist bomb attack at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
The observance at Congress Bhavan was marked by administration of oath to the gathering by MPCC vice-president T Mangibabu.
Many Ministers, MLAs and party workers were also present at the function.
To spread awareness and in commemoration of Anti Terrorism Day, troops of Red Shield Division organised several activities at HQs Veng on May 21 for the youth of Churachandpur to spread the awareness about the consequences of terrorism, violence and its effect on the people, society and the country, said PRO (Defence) in a statement issued here.
Informing that students of all tribes from various schools of Churachandpur attended the ceremony, it said the function began with wreath laying organized at "Shaheed Smarak" followed by a prayer ceremony.
All the children thereafter took the pledge to unite against terrorism followed by some recreational activities.
The events were aimed to educate the civil populace about the economical, political, social, cultural deterioration of society as a result of terrorism.
It was an endeavour to mould the younger generation who are the torch bearers of future to adopt the non-violent ways of life and contribute to the progress of the society, added the PRO.
