Aids and appliances to 187 persons living disabilities, including children and adults, were distributed at a simple function held today at the Chingmeirong premises of Manipur baptist Convention Centre Church.
The distribution function was jointly organised by Imphal West ADP World Vision India and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO) under the sponsorship of World Vision India (WVI) .
As chief guest of the event, Deputy Director (social Welfare) Surrender Shishak applauding continuous humanitarian services rendered by WVI expressed that helpful those living with disabilities is one of the noblest endeavours of mankind.
Noting that WVI activities include assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS and development of roads in remote and interior areas with strict compliance to prescribed norms on work ethics, he also called upon people with disabilities to shake off all inhibitions.
Stating that there are many people with disabilities who have excelled in diverse professions, Surrender said more fortunate section of the society need to contribute towards betterment of those living with disabilities.
He also informed that Health Department has been authorised to issue disability certificates unlike the past when the said documents used to be issued by the Social Welfare Department.
The aids and appliances distributed today included hearing aids and wheelchairs.
