Curtain downed on Shirui Lily Week

Expressing their wish that the Govt dedicates a Day for the State Flower, Shiroi Lily, the Shirui villagers and the organising committee of Shirui Lily Week have resounded the demand to announce May 21 as Shirui Lily Day and declare it as State holiday during the valedictory programme of the Shirui Lily Week observance today.
The Organising Committee of Shirui Lily Week has last week urged the Governor to declare May 21 every year as State Holiday during the opening ceremony of the week-long observance programme at Shirui village.
Joint Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation As Ningmi attended the valedictory programme as the chief guest today.
Stressing the need of promoting and preserving Shirui forest, the abode of Shirui Lily, Ningmi suggested a policy for afforesting mechanism in the State.
He encouraged the gatherings to pursue flower cultivation or floriculture not only as past time activity but to aim the global market.
Meanwhile, expressing their wish that the Govt dedicates a Day for the State Flower, the Shirui villagers have urged the Govt to declare May 21 as State Holiday.
Today's programme was marked by a flower show competition.
In the competition, Christina and party of Ukhrul bagged the first prize.
Shangyik C Ahum was awarded the first prize of the essay writing competition while Chonreithei Muinao got the first position in the drawing competition.
