State observes Anti-Terrorism Day

As observed throughout the country to mark the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi, the State Government today observed the Anti-Terrorism Day at 1st Manipur Rifles Hall here.
The observance was attended by Health & Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing as Chief Guest and Commerce & Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam as President.
Other Ministers, MLAs and officials of State Government were also present during the observance.

Speaking on the occasion, Health & Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing said that the day is observed to generate awareness in the country among all sections of people, about the danger of terrorism and violence and its effect on the people, society and the country as a whole.
It was on this day in 1991 that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi fell to the designs of terrorists.
The objective behind the observance of Anti-Terrorism Day is to wean away the people from terrorism and violence, Phungzathang noted.
The Government officials also took a pledge to fight terrorism during the occasion.
Apart from observing the occasion at district headquarters of the State, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also observed the Anti-Terrorism Day at the Congress Bhavan here today.
Ministers, MLAs and MPCC leaders participated in the programme which was led by MPCC vice president T Mangibabu in administering oath to fight against terrorism in any form.
