Chandel, August 18 2015:
Decrying the acute scarcity of water in and around Chandel district headquarters for almost a month, Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC) today urged the Chandel PHED to supply potable water in the area immediately.
In a statement, the union said that the devastating flood caused by the overflowing water of Khumji and Chakpi rivers and massive landslides have severely damaged all the water pipelines of the area.
People of Chandel district headquarters have been purchasing water from private water suppliers at an exorbitant price.
Instead of rendering assistance, Chandel PHED's water tank vehicles are being used for commercial purposes, the union alleged.
The union also sought clarification from the department concerned within August 19 and at the same time urged to distribute water in the area at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the union has also extended gratitude to the Chandel DC, SDOs, BDOs, local MLAs of 41 and 42- Chandel ACs, NPF, BJP, CSOs, church leaders, village chiefs and media persons for their assistance to the flood and landslides affected people of Chandel district.
