Imphal, January 21 2013:
Concerned over alleged negligence of the 'Kuki political demand for their rights to be respected and their territories to be constituted as a separate State of Indian Union', Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) has decided to launch 'Quit Kuki Land' movement with effect from 5 pm of January 24 .
Announcing this to media persons at Bengnum Community Hall in Churachandpur today, K Khongsai, Spokesperson of KSDC, stated that KSDC has been demanding political dialogue for recognizing Kuki territories as a separate State under the Indian Union for the last many years and several agitations including public blockade in all Kuki inhibited areas had been launched.
The public blockade was withdrawn after the government assured immediate initiation for talks on the proposed Kuki State after conclusion of the winter session of the Parliament.
However, the Central Government has yet again failed to keep its promise and no initiation for political dialogue has been made till today.
On the contrary, the government chose to circulate possibility of granting Pan-Naga Council to NSCN-IM prior to the Assembly elections in Nagaland, he lamented.
K Khongsai recalled that representatives of KSDC went to Delhi on January 14 and sought to apprise the Home Minister on the need to settle Kuki political issue before any solution with NSCN-IM on the legitimate ground that NSCN-IM continues to claim large parts of Kuki territories as Naga traditional land.
However, the Union Home Minister was too busy meeting the all Political Parties delegation from Manipur.
K Khongsai went on to inform that KSDC has taken a number of resolutions including the launching of 'Quit Kuki Land' movement with effect from 5 pm of January 24 .
The other resolutions are no celebration and official programme to mark Republic Day of India or any other subsequent celebrations connected with Indian State in Kuki areas; withdrawal of local Indian authorities from Kuki territory and any untoward incident arising out of the non-compliance of the resolution, will be their sole responsibility; to urge Kuki militants to stand behind the KSDC and act in concert with it and in tandem with the Kuki people's ultimate political goal; to burn Indian flag on January 26 as a mark of severance of ties between the Kuki Nation and the Indian State and no Indian laws should be operated in Kukis living in Kuki territories.
He also stated that Kuki Chiefs and leaders have unanimously resolved to adhere, pursue and uphold the resolutions of KSDC and the leadership of KSDC ordained to immediately initiate a plebiscite for Kuki State.
