AR rescues minor girl

Undertaking a noble cause, Assam Rifles today reunited a minor girl who was recruited by UNLF, with her family.
According to a press release issued by PRO IGAR (S), Assam Rifles received a specific input about desertion of a lady cadre of UNLF from Thongren Camp in Myanmar.
Realizing that she is a minor, Assam Rifles swung into action and assisted in freeing the minor girl from the clutches ofUNLF.
Thereafter, in an emotional moment, the 14 years old girl was reunited with her family in presence of State Police and representatives of State Child Welfare Committee.
The release claimed that the girl was recruited by SS Sgt Loibikanba of UNLF in June 2017 when she was studying in Class VI, on the pretext of providing suitable job to improve the financial condition of her family.
During her stay at UNLF, General Headquarters at Thongren (Myanmar), the minor was made to work in fields and cook food for insurgents, highlighting the exploitation of children by the insurgent groups.
It is significant to highlight that in the end of 2017, there was an input about two minor girls committing suicide at Thongren on account of the torture and trauma meted out to them by the insurgent group.
One of them was 15 years old and resident of Konthoujam, Leinao Awang, whereas the other was 17 years old and resident of Khabi Mayai Leikai, Nambol, said the release.
