MSF alleges university's VC of ignoring duties, demands better academic atmosphere

Imphal, June 01 2018: In a follow up to the immense inconveniences caused to the students community due to the closure of Manipur University's Administration Block by Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) has claimed that the recent development is a result of the failure of MU Vice Chancellor, Professor Adhya Prasad Pandey, to perform his duties properly and instead investing time, energy and resource in other areas with vested interests.

A press release issued by the publicity secretary of MSF today claimed that the VC has never arrived at the office on time and at times, he comes at around noon and stays in the office till around 7 to 8 pm.

Instead of taking up initiatives for the welfare of the students community, the VC is busy interacting with high class individuals coming in vehicles with tinted glasses well after office hours, the association alleged.

Pointing out that the VC is often out of station, MSF further questioned whether he is busy with official works or is just going outside the State for his own personal reasons and added that if the funds used by the VC for his useless trips had been utilised for the welfare of the students, the condition of the university would have been far better than it is now.

MSF further alleged that there are signs the VC is misusing his powers to appoint close acquaintances with political affiliation as officials in the university, give contract works to various firms based outside the State etc.

As an example it explained that the students community were elated when they were told that smartboards would be used to teach them but substandard smartboards are being utilised which has completely turned off the students.

There are various technical defects regarding the answer sheets provided to the students and the students are facing various difficulties due to lack of extra sheets as well, the association alleged and added that due to lack of attention by the VC, the university is now at the 320th position in the country.

Asking in which corner of the world a VC of a university travels in a bullet proof vehicle with Y category security, MSF said that the students are still being herded like cattle in 1970s era university buses with leaking roofs due to lack of proper transport facilities.

This is a gross insult to the people of Manipur and the VC's action of travelling under such security is like showing the world that Manipur is a war zone, MSF decried.

The association asked what tangible developmental works have been taken up in the two years time since Professor Adhya Prasad Pandey became the VC apart from the 14-15 days condensed course for teachers and students of the university concerning the 105th Indian Science Congress.

MSF claimed that large contract works regarding the Science Congress were given to outside firms while clean up works and mere paint jobs were handed down to the University.

On the other hand, the student union alleged that many of the teachers of Manipur University are busy with sticking up to the VC for then-own self interest and political gains, instead of teaching in the classes properly.

It also questioned the agenda behind the failure to declare the interview result for the posts of some teachers of the university more than a year back.

Mentioning that the failure of Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) to act properly and fiercely today is a great disappointment, MSF urged the association to refrain from running after the VC for favours and take up steps for the development of the university's academic atmosphere.

MSF would not stay silent concerning any attempt to rob the rights of the students and degrade the position of the university or the State, it warned.
