Imphal, October 22 2011:
The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) which has been successfully taken up throughout the country to give total health benefits to the people of the country is likely to fail in Manipur since the services of the paramedical staffs employed for the mission has not been extended for the last eight months.
The Paramedical staffs on the request of anonymity told Hueiyen Lanpao that around 400 paramedical staffs including Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) have been deployed under the NRHM and has been successfully performing their duties in the rural and hill areas of the state, inspite of various hurdles.
The services of the paramedical staffs, nurses and technical staffs were being extended after every 11 months for the last many years.
But the services for these staffs have expired on March 2011 and still no service extension has been made.
Inspite of all this non extension of service the paramedical staffs have been carrying on their duties against their will.
This is a gross violation of human rights, they said.
They further went on to say that since there is lack of staffs in the CHC, PHC and PHSC of hills and plains they have been deployed for quite long.
Even the Health and Family Welfare Department is staying mum on this issue which is really unfortunate.
