Imphal, October 22 2011:
The Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) has pleaded to titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba to intervene in resolving the vexed issue of Sadar Hills
district.
Meanwhile, the Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) has appealed to both the SHDDC and the UNC to lift the highway blockades in view of the ensuing festivals like Ningol Chakkouba, Kut and Christmas.
On behalf of the SHDDC, senior citizens and village chiefs of Sadar Hills submitted a memorandum to the titular king and pleaded for his intervention to resolve the present impasse.
The Sadar Hills senior citizens and village chiefs who arrived at the royal palace at about 3.10 pm were accorded a warm reception by the titular queen.
Traditional dance and music were presented before the king by a cultural troupe who came with the petitioners.
The visiting team also presented traditional cymbal (senbung) and clothes to the king.
The memorandum submitted to the king was jointly signed by the SHDDC president Ngamkhohao Haokip and general secretary Tonghen Kipgen.
After perusing the memorandum, the king reminded that all the people of Manipur share filial relationships and that they should share misery as well as joy of each other.
Sanajaoba observed that Sadar Hills issue became so much critical as successive Governments never attempted to bring a lasting solution to the issue though the same issue is 40 years old.
Stating that he is only a titular king without any political power, Sanajoaba, nevertheless, assured that he would make his best efforts to bring a solution which would be acceptable to all communities.
He also promised to pay visit to Kangpokpi to collect first hand account of the issue.
The team which submitted memorandum to the king included senior citizens Tongpu, Chungkam as well as president of Kuki Mothers' Association Rose Mangshi.
