Weak bridge disrupting supply, says Biren

Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD) Minister N Biren has informed that many Imphal-bound goods carriers are stranded near Silchar town due to presence of a weak bridge on the route.
Inaugurating a two-day seminar organised as a part of the 9th Indigenous Brothers' Meet at Rupmahal Theatre today, the Minister said residents of Bholapur village near Silchar have been preventing loaded Imphal-bound trucks from crossing the bridge, which they content got damaged due to plying of large number of heavy vehicles.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Biren maintained that efforts are on to prevail upon Assam Government take up necessary steps to ensure smooth movement of the stranded vehicles.
He also conveyed that every effort would be made to ensure arrival of the goods carriers, which include many Bullet Tankers (LPGs carriers), ahead of the ensuing Ningol Chakkouba festival.
In a late evening development, it is informed that vehicular movement on the said bridge has resumed.
Asserting that some individuals with vested interest had been relentlessly scheming to create divisions in the society, Biren said only through unity, cooperation and concerted effort of all the communities will such divisive forces be defeated.
Informing that the Government of Manipur is according prime importance for an early solution to the issue of Sadar Hills district and terming imposition of counter-blockade as unfortunate at such an important juncture, the Minister called upon all to promote amity and strive for achieving all-round development instead of launching agitation in pursuit of aspiration of individual community.
