District Council Schools to close down from today

Imphal, October 22 2011:
Demanding payment of their long due arrears and implementation of the pension scheme among various other demands of the District Council Employees, the All Manipur District Council Teachers Association has submitted a memorandum to the Governor and staged a sit in protest at Thangmeiband Thou community Hall today.
Speaking at the sidelines of the sit in protest, L Dairy, President of All Manipur District Council Teachers Association said that the association has put forward its demand to the Chief Minister by submitting a number of memorandums.
Sit in protest agitations have been carried out at district levels.
As a part of the agitation, all schools under the District Council will be closed down from October 23 .
He further said that except the teachers under the district council, all other employees of the state government have already received their 18% DA arrear from 2001 January to June 30, 2005 .
The All Manipur District Council Teachers Association have submitted various memorandums to the state government for implementation of pension scheme for the employees of District Council but the government pays no heed to their demand.
As such the family members of the retired employees of District council are suffering a lot.
The government needs to implement the scheme for the welfare of the retired employees, he said.
