Imphal, October 22 2011:
Decrying alleged indifferent attitude of the Government members of All Manipur District Council Teachers' Association staged protest demonstration at Thangmeiband Road near THAU ground, today.
Interacting with newspersons on the sideline of the agitation, Association president L Daihrii said members of the Association were constrained to stage the protest as repeated reminders to the Government for release of pending salaries and arrears, and implement pension scheme for employees of Autonomous District Councils are yet to evoke positive response from the Government of Manipur.
Informing that a memorandum highlighting the Association demands has also been submitted to the Governor, he said in addition to non-release of monthly salaries from March till June this year, over 7000 member teachers of the Association are being deprived of arrears pending from 2004 till 2005 when the 5th Pay Commission was implemented.

Daihrii reminded that grievances of the ADC teachers and other employees had already been highlighted to the Government of Manipur in the form of hunger strike from September 5, 2009 at the Sangakpham premises of ADC House.
Contending that the agitation was called off following an assurance by the then Education Minister to honourably address the issue, the Association president lamented that the assurance is yet to be translated into action by the Government.
Daihrii also strongly resented non-release of six months arrears pertaining to implementation of the 6th Pay Commission despite release of arrears for the same period already released for employees of other departments.
Further highlighting that a Gazette notification of the Government had approved pension scheme for the ADC employees, he alleged lack of seriousness and commitment by authorities of department concerned for non-implementation of the Scheme.
Daihrii blamed lackadaisical attitude of the department concerned for the pension scheme file process yet to reach office of the Accountant General.
Holding the Chief Minister responsible for the suffering of ADC employees, the Association president suggested that the CM translate into action his assurance at a recently held reception programme of newly elected ADC Members, to initiate all possible measures for addressing pending issues of the ADC employees.
He also expressed strong resentment against the CM not according importance to various issues of the ADC employees with the assertion that previous attempts to meet him (CM) did not materialise.
It is said that along with staging of the protest demonstration educational institutions administered by the Autonomous District Councils in six hill districts remained shut today.
Daihrii also affirmed that if there is positive response from the Government of Manipur on the demands of the Association the ceasework strike launched since October 3 would be called off.
