Campaign for bye-election to 14-Yaiskul AC to be held on December 19 has ended at 3 pm today without any unwanted incident.
On the other hand, a three member enforcement committee at the sub divisional level has been formed to monitor the election model code of conduct.
With election campaign hour ended at 3 pm Thursday, security has been tightened up across the Yaiskul Assembly constituency in the heart of the greater Imphal area as precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
Four candidates are in the fray to the bye-election which polling will go on December 19 to fill the vacant one seat of Manipur Legislative Assembly, lying vacant after the dead of the sitting Congress MLA, E Kunjeshwor in September last.
E Suraj (Congress), Hanjabam Jaydev (Independent), Soubam Rajen (Janata Dal-Secular) and Aribam Jagadish (Independent) are the four contenders in the bye-election.
Congress candidate and independent candidate Jaydev who BJP and other opposition parties in the state Assembly like MPP are the fore-runner so far election campaigns are observed till last hour today.
According to an order issued by Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East district, M Lakshmikumar, the enforcement committee will comprise Sub Divisional Officer (SDO)/Returning Officer (RO), Porompat as chairman, SDC concerned and OC of police station concerned as the member.
The constituency has a total of 23,498 electors.
Out of this, 12,703 are female voters while 10,795 are male voters.
Polling will be witnessed at 28 polling stations across the constituency.
Nine polling stations have been declared as hypersensitive while the rest as sensitive.
Armed Central paramilitary will be deployed in all the polling stations and no state force will be allowed within the periphery of the polling stations during the poll hour, according to the Returning Officer of the bye-poll.
Tighten security measures have been taken up in the constituency so that no untoward incident occurs in the constituency by intensifying the patrolling importantly in the sensitive areas, a police officer said.
