Tamenglong, December 17 2009:
DC Tamenglong Sumant Singh visited Tamei sub-division on December 12 and interacted with the local villagers about NREGS and other matters.
According to a press release issued by Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) chairman K Humaliabou, the DC was not satisfied with the way NREGS was being implemented in Tamei sub-division.
Interacting with chairmen of many villages at Tamei Hqs IB hall, the DC instructed the village chairmen to work and use NREGS fund properly for the welfare of the villagers.
Talking about PDS, the village chairmen reportedly informed the DC that they did not receive PDS rice, AAY rice and SK oil at the prices fixed by the Government.
Whenever PDS items were distributed at Tamei, the villagers could not buy the items as their prices were too high.
After listening to the village chairmen, Sumant Singh asked the SDO Tamei to serve a notification to fix the prices of AAY, BPL rice and SK oil at the earliest.
DC Sumant Singh also made a surprise visit to PHC Tamei and checked out the registration book of patients as well as the staff attendance book.
Observing that the infrastructure, building and equipment of the PHC were fine, he directed the staff that patients should not suffer for shortage of doctors and staff.
He also warned absentee doctors.
Deputy Commissioner Sumant Singh also interacted with functionaries of ZSUM and AZSU, added the release.
