GPF amount of Rs 8,52,666 belonging to eight employees of Medical Department withdrawn by one of their colleagues without their knowledge has been recovered from the swindler.
Acting on complaints that GPF amount of eight employees of Moreh hospital had been withdrawn without their knowledge, the high power committed constituted under the Manipur Public Servant Personnel Liability Act and headed by the Chief Secretary as chairman took up a case and investigated into the fraudulence, conveyed an official source.
During a meeting of the high power committee chaired by its chairman DS Poonia, the responsibility of paying back the swindled amount was fixed on former DDO of Moreh Hospital Dr Mangthang Lhungdim.
An official order was also issued in this regard.
After recovering the swindled amount from Dr Lhungdim, the amount was deposited in the GPF accounts of the eight employees.
Challans and other documents for depositing the amount was produced in another meeting of the high power committee held on December 15 .
The meeting confirmed that the swindled amount has been paid back.
Although the swindled amount has been paid back, its interest that would be accrued after withdrawal has not been paid back.
Nevertheless, the high power committee has decided to recover the interest too shortly.
Moreover, a departmental would also be instituted against the former DDO, informed the source.
The committee also decided to send explanation calls anew to all those involved in misuse of Rs 17 crores in Power Department and recruitment of additional District Council teachers.
However, despite reports about involvement of Ministers in many cases taken up by the high power committee, no action has been initiated against any Minister.
