At least two persons were killed and about 35 others injured when a passenger bus heading for Tonyai village from Senapati district headquarter lost control and plunged into a 15-feet deep gorge this afternoon in Senapati district.
One of the two deceased has been identified as Manchi (17).She was said to be a XII standard student of Don Bosco High School, Maram in Senapati district.
However, the identity of the other deceased person is yet to be established.
Among the 35 injured, 10 are reported to be in a critical condition and they have been admitted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital.

The remaining injured persons have been admitted to the Assam Rifles hospital, Senapati district.
The incident occurred when the driver of the passenger bus, Upland Travels lost its control while heading for Tonyai from Senapati.
The incident occurred before reaching Makhan bridge.
Meanwhile, Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) has condoled the death of two persons in the accident and conveyed wishes for speedy recovery of the injured persons.
On the other hand, a press release from the PIB (DW) stated that in a major mishap on NH-39 today, a Mao bound civil bus (No MN01-0331) with 52 passengers on-board, fell into the gorge near Maram after the driver lost control on a sharp turn.
However, in a commendable act of humanity towards the locals, troops of 22 AR under the aegis of 59 Mtn Bde of 57 Mountain Division provided humanitarian assistance to the accident-hit passengers at Maram and save lives of many injured.
A rescue team of Assam Rifles rushed to the accident site within minutes that provided immediate first aid to the injured and shifted severely injured to the unit hospital.
They were provided emergency care and treatment by Capt Vishvendu and SMO Dy Comdt Phalgooni Chakma along with the medical team of the unit aided by Dy Comdt Debbrata Ray and RMO Capt Loujhem of 36 Assam Rifles and CMO, Dist Hospital who reached with their medical team for assistance.
A total of 30-35 passengers were injured out of which five were serious and immediately evacuated in Assam Rifles Ambulances for RIMS hospital, Imphal for further management.
Two passengers lost their life at the accident site and one succumbed to his injuries at the unit hospital.
The passengers, their families and locals expressed their gratitude for timely and immense help provided by the SF, the press released added.
