With the main objective of promoting culture of indigenous fish varieties like Pengba, Ngaton, Ngakra, etc which are once thought to be extinct but relished by the people widely, a three-day training programme has begun from today at S Tomba & Sons Integrated Semi-Intensive Fish Farming, Hiyangthang.
Inaugural function of three-day long indigenous fish culture training cum extension programme being organised by S Tomba & Sons Integrated Semi-Intensive Fish Farming Private Limited in association with Environment and Ecology Wing, Government of Manipur was attended by Director of Environment & Ecology Wing M Homeshwor Singh as chief guest and owner of the farm S Tomba Singh as functional president.

Joint Director of Fisheries Department, Government of Manipur Kh Memcha Devi, retired Joint Director of Fisheries Department Kh Chandra Singh and Fishery Inspector of Fisheries Department L Ibohal Singh were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
Delivering the key note address, proprietor of S Tomba & Sons Integrated Semi-Intensive Fish Farming Private Limited S Surchandra Singh, DF SC, Mumbai, National and State awardee explained that the training programme is being organised with the main objective of propagating indigenous fish varieties like Pengba, Ngaton and Ngakra which were once thought to be extinct and ensure its available in the market through scientific methods.
This would also help in improving the economy of the State, he added.
In his address as chief guest of the function, Homeshwor observed that such training programmes should be encouraged.
In his presidential address, S Tomba exhorted the trainees to make use of the knowledge gain during the training programme.
In all 55 trainees from different parts of the State including Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Churachandpur districts are taking part in the training programme.
