Imphal, December 17 2009:
Tension ran high at the border town of Moreh with public revolting against the conduct of Assam Rifles personnel over the incident of arresting a player of the semi final match of the Leishangthem Shantikumar Memorial Under-15 Football Tournament which was played at public ground of Eastern Shine School today.
The second semi-final match of the tournament in the afternoon was played between Eleven Young Boys (B) and Red Ant Club.
Just around 5 minutes before the game was over, personnel of 31 Assam Rifles posted at the border town came and arrested player of Eleven Young Boys (B) Sougrakpam Ingo (15) s/o Ibungo of Moreh Heinoumakhong Ward no.7 .
As Ingo was being taken away, the public ran after the Assam Rifles personnel who finally carried away Ingo in a van.
The AR men have also reportedly picked up two other youths namely Thangjam Robert (16) of Moreh Teli Road and Thangjam Tenao (16) of Moreh Heinou Makhong from near Moreh Police Station not long after the first incident.
As the angry public continued to pursue, the Assam Rifles finally drove inside Moreh Police Station.
Even as the police turned down to take into custody of the three youths arrested by the Assam Rifles, the enraged mod started pelting stones at the police station, thus forcing the police personnel to open blank firing in a bid to control the situation.
All the three arrested youths were, however, released later by the Assam Rifles who maintained that they were arrested due to some misunderstanding.
