CM flags off Somdal MST Bus service

Chief minister N Bi ren on Tuesday launched and flagged off the Somdal Imphal Manipur State Transport (MST) Bus Service from the MST Complex, Moirangkhom.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM opined that launch of bus service might not be grand programme but it could be taken as a big step towards plugging the communication and developmental gaps between different areas of the state.
Maintaining person to person communication and sharing ideas, getting in touch with one another among different communities would bring equality in the state, he said.
Maintaining that the state government had been putting in maximum efforts to bring development, Biren said that the state has been witness ing significant changes in hill areas with improvement in road infrastructure, security, education and health sector among others.
While stressing on the im portance of quality control in the construction work of Petti grew College in Ukhrul district, ne appealed to the public not to create any hindrance in the construction work.
He further expressed the desire and efforts of government to upgrade the college to university level.
The chief minister informed that the erstwhile Manipur State Road Transport Corporation, which had remained non-functional for a long time, was revived as Manipur State Transport (MST) with the objective of facilitating the public with an accessible low cost transportation across the state.
Currently, MST buses are plying on 21 different routes which will be increased to 22 subsequent to launch of the Somdal-Imphal service.
He appealed to the public not to create any disturbance in any road construction works as proper road infrastructure is of utmost importance to bring equal development in all areas of the state.
With equal development, there Will be peace and healthy relationships among different communities, he added.
While informing the gathering that development of Ukhrul town road has been included under 100 days programme of the present government, the chief minister appealed to public and civil society organisations to monitor the project so as to ensure quality control.
He also assured that the government will not tolerate when road develops crack one day after black topping.
Student and civil society organisations should inspect the road construction too just as they inspect schools and colleges, he said and appealed to them to inform the government about any malpractices as the present government is ready to take punitive action.
While stating that travel time between Imphal and Ukhrul will be reduced to one hour if Imphal-Ukhrul road is expanded to two lanes, the chief minister pointed out that the people now conveniently travel to the border town of Moreh and return back to Imphal the same day following widening of Imphal-Moreh road.
He then appealed to people not to disturb development projects merely for compensation and any problem could be solved with discussion and dialogue.
Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, Transport minister Khashim Vashum, officials of Transport Department and Manipur State Transport and village chiefs of Ukhrul district also attended the launching programme.
The Somdal to Imphal bus will depart Somdal village for Imphal at 7 am and will leave ISBT, Imphal for Somdal at 1 pm on every working day.
The bus fare for the same will be Rs 200 .
