Drivers Day observed

The 26th Drivers' Day was held today with members of All Manipur Road Transport Drivers & Motor Workers Union and families paying tribute to all drivers of the state who had died while on duty.
Organised by the Joint Coordinating 26th Drivers'' Day Observation Committee Manipur at Thau Ground here, the event was attended by Government officials, representatives of trade and transport unions, and family members of the late drivers.
Speaking on the occasion, All India Trade Union, Manipur (AITUC) secretary L Sotinkumar said many important programmes and schemes for transporters introduced by the Centre are not implementing in Manipur.
He expressed unhappiness that Inter-state Bus Terminus (ISTB), which was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has failed to function till date.
Sotinkumar said the Manipur Government is still unwilling to meet various major demands of the state transporters.
"Drivers in Manipur are facing a lot of problem," he said.
Floral tributes were paid to the drivers before their photographs to mark the occasion.
