Demanding the identification of the skeletal remains and human skulls discovered during exaction at the erstwhile complex of Tombisana High School on December 25 last, Families of the Involuntarily Disappeared Association Manipur (FIDAM) along with Committee on Mass Grave at Tombisana School formed by amalgamation of 21 civil society organizations with support from Human Rights Initiative staged a sit-in-protest at Thangmeiband on Wednesday.
Women folks and several representatives of civil society organizations also took part in the protest demonstration which also demanded the whereabouts of Laishram Bijoykumar who went missing ever since he was taken away from his residence by security forces on the intervening night of June 4 and 5, 1996 .
Speaking to media persons, Kangujam Ranjit, president of FIDAM said that the sit-in-protest was staged to demand and establish whereabouts of those who have disappeared after they were pulled up by security forces from different parts of the State.
He also questioned the State Government's intention for handing over the case to CBI to investigate the matter.
Pointing out that the government has not furnished any reports publicly regarding development of the case since the discovery of the skeletons; Kangujam Ranjit said that the sit-in-protest was staged so as to pave way for establishment of the identities of the skeletons.
The president of FIDAM maintained that sit-in-protest will be staged in 20 different places in coming days.
He demanded the government to reveal the identities of the skeletal remains and human skulls at the earliest failing which the association along with Committee on Mass Grave at Tombisana High School will launch an intense agitation.
