Ng Gilbert installed as village chief

Upa Ng Gilbert has sworn in as the chief/chairman of Liwachangning traditional Council and Village authority at an impressive function attended by family members
here today.
Social activist and learned community leader NG Gilbert is the sixth chief/Chairman of the village council and the village Authority instituted traditionally since the time, the village was established way back in 1924 .
Upa Ng Gilbert is not only well known to his own community Monsang Naga Tribes but is also a well known public figure of Chandel district, who has earned fame and reputation in pioneering various civil society organisations set up including the Chandel Naga People's Organisation and the Naga Students' Union Chandel.
Sirti Upa Ruh (SUR) president Ng Benithan administered the oath of secrecy while pastor of Liwachangning Baptist Church Ts Morison invoked blessing for the chief/chairman's prosperity.
The function marked by traditional dances, folk songs and exchange of customary gift items between the newly installed chiefs and relatives.
The chief also honoured his cabinet and other subordinate staff constituting the traditional Council with gifts.
Thousand of friends, well wishers and long time associates both from the valley and the hills including the MLA of 41 -Chandel A/C (StT) Nunghlung Victor, Deputy Commissioner of Chandel Ningthoujam Geofrey, UNC President Gaidon Kamei attended the service.
The programme was also attended by representatives from the CSOs including the UNC, CNPO president Ws Kanral Anal, Tribe presidents, public leaders, social workers, chiefs and pastors.
