Imphal, May 10 2016:
The Poumai Naga community allegedly vandalised Theiva Baptist Church (TBC), Theiva
village, Ukhrul after Church authority denied
permission to hold a morning worship service at the Church, our correspondent reports.
According to TBC, the Church authority
on May 5 denied permission to hold a com-
mon fellowship programme by the Poumai
Naga Union (PNU), Tangkhul village,
Senapati district understanding their inten-
tion to forcefully instal a Pastor at the
Church without the consent of the congre-
gation.
PNU despite the stand of the Church
authority broke into the Church, damaged
the foundation stone erected at the Church
premises, vandalized the nameplate at the
Pastor's quarter and erased the names of the
Church pioneer leaders.
They even erased
the name of Theiva village embossed in the
monument, a Church elder K Tarma said.
TBC secretary N Raising in a brief inter-
action with this correspondent said a general
assembly was held at Theiva village on May
4 and 5 as proposed by PNU.
Over 340
Poumai delegates attended the assembly.
Theiva Village is a unit of Tangkhul Naga
Long (TNL) and the Theiva Baptist Church
itself is affiliated to Tangkhul Naga Baptist
Churches Association (TBCA), Ukhrul.
PNU has however been persistently insist-
ing the Church to affiliate with the Poumai
Naga Baptist Association (PNBA).
TBC has appealed to the Poumai commu-
nity not to harass the village.
