Imphal, May 10 2016:
Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Women Wing has said that they will boycott the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) election if the names of non-locals are not deleted from the voter lists.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference held at JCILPS office, JCILPS Women Wing convenor Thongam (O) Apabi also announced a ban on organising entertainment programmes until the demand for ILPS is fulfilled.
She said that they would continue staging different forms of agitation until ILPS is implemented in the State.
Although all political parties had decided to press the matter to Central leaders in New Delhi, the Women Wing does not have full faith in these parties as they remained silent for many months without any action after the three ILPS Bills were passed by the State Assembly on August 31 last year.
Alleging that these parties have never acted willingly on the issue but under pressure, the woman leader said that JCILPS Women Wing would never remain silent until the demand is fulfilled.
Apabi further said that people are eager to hear the news of the meeting to be held between the leaders of all political parties and Central Government in New Delhi.
On the other hand, JCILPS Women Wing has strongly condemned the alleged police brutality meted out to a woman at Uripok Sorbol Thingel on May 8 night.
Regarding the incident, Apabi said that JCILPS Women Wing would extend support to all forms of agitation launched by the people of the victim's locality.
Maintaining that it was not the first instance of police brutality against women, Apabi said that a police officer assaulted a girl student during a pro-ILPS agitation near Secretariat office complex last year.
She said that it is unfortunate that no woman MLA has either uttered even a single word or condemned the incident so far.
Saying that the JCILPS Women Wing understands that bandhs and general strikes give a huge impact to the masses especially poor people, Apabi said that they are sometimes compelled to impose these forms of stir for the future of the indigenous people of the State.
The Women Wing also criticized Naga People's Front (NPF) for showing opposition to the ILP stir in Manipur, reports Newmai News Network.
"The NPF Manipur unit does not have its own political principles but the party is acting on the instigation of others," JCILPS Women Wing convenor Th Apabi Devi alleged.
