Imphal, October 01 2021:
Joint Tribe Students' Association (JTSA), while condemning the brutal killing of Athuan Abonmai, has termed the demand for resignation of Manipur chief minister and suspension of Tamenglong's deputy commissioner and superintendent of police as unreasonable and unacceptable.
In a press statement, JTSA said that it "vehemently condemns the inhumane and brutal killing of Athon Abonmai.
We believe the assurance of peace lies within the people and not with the government or any administration alone".
The state government has always prioritized the interest of the people, it said and appealed to the government to hold on to its "people-minded policy" and not succumb to any ill intention of few vested interests who want to disrupt the unity and peaceful atmosphere of the state.
It appealed to all to work sincerely in bridging "the gap of misunderstanding and confusion to live in peace, allow the law of the land to govern, take its own course of action for lasting peace and early delivery of justice to victims of every inhumane and barbaric act without bias" .
"The 22nd September unfortunate incident had torn the hearts and drained the tears of peace loving people of the state, Nation knows the untimely demise of Athuan Abonmai is horrific, inhumane beyond the expression of words," it said.
JTSA then appealed to "the government and like-minded CSOs to leave aside every individual, group and political interests and ideologies", and assist in expediting early performance of last rites on humanitarian grounds as per the customs for peaceful and eternal rest of the departed soul.
