MHA approves CPMF for ADC polls

The Ministry of Home Affairs has today approved deployment of Central Paramilitary forces for the Autonomous District Council election so as to thwart off subversive activities and ensure peaceful polling on June 1 .
According to a senior police official, the MHA today approved the State Government's proposal to requisition Central Paramilitary forces for area domination in the hill districts of Manipur in view of the ADC election.
A total of 60 companies of Central Paramilitary forces would be deployed in the six ADCs for the election.
These forces would guard polling stations to ensure peaceful polling.
Added to these, the State Government would also deploy 113 companies of State armed forces and 43 companies of unarmed police for the ADC election.
On June 1, a total of 7,08,283 voters are expected to cast their votes at 1163 different polling stations set up for the election across the six ADCs.
Out of the total 1163 polling stations, 302 have been classified as hyper-sensitive and 445 as sensitive.
Meanwhile, the State Police, in their efforts to avert any undue interference in the election process have notified UG groups under SoO pact to confine themselves in their respective designated camps until the polling concludes.
The State has also sought help from Assam Rifles troops to ensure that the election process goes off smoothly without any disturbance, the official informed.
A total of 495 candidates belonging to different political parties and Independents would fight for the 144 ADC seats on June 1 .
