Union Minister Harsh Vardhan visits State
Special attention to be paid on setting up Women Technology & Bio-diversity Park

Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan has stated that special attention will be paid on setting up of a Women Technology and Bio Diversity Park in the state.
The Union minister who arrived in Imphal on a two-day state visit gave the information while addressing the inauguration of a four-storey Vigyan Sadan in FEEDS Campus at Hengbung in Senapati district on Monday.
The Vigyan Sadan was constructed as a centre to promote science, technology and innovation to scale up development in Manipur in particular and Northeast region in general.
Harsh Vardhan was accorded a warm reception by volunteers of various civil society organizations representing different tribes as he entered the FEEDS campus.

The minister expressed that he was surprised to see the activities taken up by the FEEDS (Foundation for Environment & Economic Development Services) for promoting research, extension and development using technology and innovation.
He also reiterated that the Central government is taking up special attention for the development of Northeast region.
"I felt that the region particularly Manipur has a bright future in exploiting the vast natural resources for the welfare of the people.
I strongly feel that in spite of over six decades since independence, our states in the Northeast certainly deserve better treatment, better developmental modalities and better attention", said Dr Harsh Vardhan.
He gave his commitment on making Manipur one of the most prosperous and scientifically developed states in the country.
Giving special reference to protection of environment and bio-diversity, he stated that it has become the most challenging task across different countries.
Promoting the Make in India policy envisioned by the Centre in his speech, he delved on the need for skill development of the locals and subsequent upgradation through the intervention of science and technology.
The function was attended by Kh Raghumani Singh, Additional Secretary, department of science and technology, and K Lakshmikanta Sharma, ADM, Senapati.
Kuki Students' Organization, Sadar Hills submitted a memorandum to the Union minister seeking a technology centre at Kangpokpi.
Cultural dances were presented by Kuki-Thadou, Maram and Poumai troupes to mark the occasion.
Earlier, the minister took a short tour of the Orchid Research and Development Centre, Hengbung and praised the staff for their dedicated service.
Later in the evening, the minister was accorded a warm reception at the state BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek.
He iterated that the primary objective of his visit is to check the status of developmental projects being taken up in Manipur.
The state has huge potential in different fields including bio-resources development.
He advocated the establishment of science centres in every district of Manipur, maintaining that science and technology has become indispensable in the present times.
He informed that the matter was discussed during his meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi, which was held before the reception.
