KVKC holds workshop on Jhum

Imphal, February 16 2015:
An awareness cum workshop on "Jhum improvement for sustaining food and nutritional security of tribal farmers" was held at Lambung Village, Chandel Sub-Division, Chandel District.
According to a press release, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel (KVKC) Programme Coordinator, the programme is an attempt to incorporate scientific farming system model into traditional jhum farming system for sustaining food and nutritional security of Jumias.
The programme was held under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and organised by Indian Council of Agriculture Research � Regional Council for North East Hills Region, Manipur Centre in collaboration with KVKC.
Dr.Lohit K.Baishya, Sr.
Scientist, ICAR � RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre and G.P Kabui, Programme Coordinator, KVK Chandel delivered lecture and scientific advice to the farmers about the evolving new challenges of jhum cultivation practices and the way forward.
Thereafter, an interaction programme was also held and led by the Subject matter specialist of KVK Chandel - Ts.
Leenda Monsang, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding), Dr..AAmeeta Devi, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Animal Sc.) and Dr.Sonamani Singh, Sr.
Technical Officer (Agril.
Engg.) with the farmers about their various issues and problems on jhum cultivation.
A total of 30 (thirty) farmers and staffs of KVK Chandel attended the programme.
