Imphal, February 16 2015:
All the trade unions of the State affiliated to different Central trade unions have geared up to join the country-wide civil disobedience movement scheduled on
February 26 .
Speaking to media persons at the Paona Bazar office of the Manipur Electricity Employees' Union (MEEU) today, Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) general secretary Y Ranapratap said that the Government of India has been following a neo-liberal economic policy in favour of multi National companies and global capital finance by completely overlooking the welfare of the country's teeming poor peasants and labourers.
Labourers of the country would stage protest demonstrations and mass rallies at all State capitals on February 26, he added.
All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary L Sotinkumar said that Central trade unions of the country submitted a charter of demands to the NDA Government on December 5 last year.
In the meantime, labourers have protested against Government policies which contravene labour laws and challenge fundamental rights of workers.
As planned across the country, several forms of protest demonstration including mass rallies would be held at Imphal on February 26 .
The civil disobedience movement would be participated by employees of all public sector undertakings, banks, insurance companies and labourers of both organised and unorganised sectors.
Raising the monthly wage of labourers to Rs 15,000 and monthly pension to Rs 3000 is one of the demands listed in the 10-point charter of demands.
The NDA Government has been following several anti-labour policies which are simply unacceptable to the workers, Sotinkumar added.
