Imphal, February 16 2015:
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa, not satisfied with the way Nungtek-Marangching Part I road was constructed, has instructed officials concerned to re-construct the same road anew.
Francis Ngajokpa accompanied by Manipur State Rural Roads Development Agency (MSRRDA) Additional Chief Engineer Th Shyamsunder and other officials went on a field inspection trip to the 8 Kms long road in Tamenglong district today.
On seeing that stones were laid out without laying any WBM layer in some portions of the road, Francis Ngajokpa stated that the way the road was being constructed was not satisfactory enough.
He said that he had inspected several road construction works in the valley districts and a couple of hill districts being executed under PMGSY.
Although the road construction works were found up to the mark most of them are not fully complete, Francis Ngajokpa said.
Road development work between Nungtek and Marangching Part-I needs fresh application of all the standard procedures.
He said that he went to the work site to see if the work was being executed by maintaining proper quality and if any difficulty was encountered by the workers.
All PMGSY works are one-time sanctions although it has a small component for maintenance.
As such, any compromise on the quality of road construction works taken up under PMGSY is unacceptable, Francis Ngajokpa stated categorically.
He then appealed to all contractors to execute all PMGSY works by giving due emphasis to the qualitative aspect.
The Minister also inspected the repairing work of the 4.5 Kms long road between Lower Nagaching and Upper Nagaching.
Additional Chief Engineer Th Shyamsunder observed that there are certain discrepancies in the road construction work between Nungtek and Marangching.
Relevant engineers have been instructed to construct around half a kilometre of the road strictly according to guidelines.
The remaining portions would be constructed by emulating the procedures followed in constructing the half kilometre stretch.
Moreover, the engineers have been instructed to submit a report about the road construction within a week, Shyamsunder added.
