Imphal, October 27 2020: Even though Opposition Congress party has been scheming persistently to topple the BJP-led Government from the second month of its formation till date, all these attempts would not bear fruit, asserted Chief Minister N Biren.

Addressing an election rally of Ngamthang Haokip at Motbung today who is contesting the by-election from Saitu AC on BJP ticket, N Biren appealed to all the people to work collectively so as to ensure that Congress party does not return to power as its earlier regime was marked by wanton violence.

The Congress candidate who is challenging Ngamthang Haokip for Saitu Assembly seat is a Government contract employee, said Biren and added that his service ends in 2021 and no Government employee can resign from his or her post until due approval is given by the authority concerned.

The Congress candidate filed his nomination paper even before his resignation from Government service was approved.

Although Ngamthang Haokip was asked to lodge a complaint against the candidature of the Congress candidate, he refused saying that the God would judge the matter, Biren told the gathering.

Had Ngamthang Haokip agreed to lodge a complaint against the candidature of Congress rival, he could have won Saitu Assembly seat unchallenged just as Ginsuanhau did in Singnat AC, Biren said.

Hailing the people of Saitu AC for giving consent to Ngamthang Haokip to resign from the Congress in order to save the BJP-led coalition Government when it was facing a very critical situation, Biren pointed out that the Government was sworn in on March 15, 2017 .

Even though the Government has succeeded in fostering closer ties between hill people and plain people apart from establishing cordial relationship between police and public, Congress party has been conspiring persistently to pull down the Government, said the Chief Minister.

At the request of BJP, five/six like minded Congress MLAs including Ngamthang Haokip who detested the power-hungry attitude of Congress leadership resigned from Congress party as well as the Manipur Legislative Assembly just before the Rajya Sabha election and the vote of confidence taken in the House, Biren said.

The BJP-led coalition Government which successfully brought peace and stability in the State and does not discriminate people on the basis of religion, caste or community is still alive today because of the sacrifices made by the ex-Congress MLAs.

The Almighty would certainly reward them for their selfless acts, Biren continued.

Denouncing the act of removing BJP flags which were put up in connection with the election rally, the Chief Minister said that all those people involved in removing the flags would be identified soon.

If any UG group under SoO pact was involved in the mischief, a report would be sent to the Centre, he said.

If those people want to join politics, they may come out in the open but they should not don the role of insurgents as well as politicians at the same time.

Threats would not serve any purpose in politics, Biren said.

Regarding the unveiling of a monolith in commemoration of the Kuki Struggle on October 17 from the Chief Minister's Secretariat, Biren clarified that the monolith was unveiled virtually from Imphal as he could not go to the spot because of COVID-19.Advising the youth to be careful while sending messages in social media, Biren said that all messages and posts shared in social media are monitored by the cyber crime branch of police.

The Government would not remain silent if any message shared in social media has the potential to create communal tension.

The Government is for all the people settled together in Manipur, he asserted.

Ngamthang Haokip said that it would not take much efforts or time to bring rapid development in Saitu AC if there is unity among the communities and clans settled together within the Assembly segment.

Saying that he could not do anything for the people of Saitu AC when he was with the Opposition party, Ngamthang Haokip claimed that he joined BJP in the interest of the people.

He said that he resigned from the State Assembly in order to save the Chief Minister.

The election rally was also participated by BJP National vice-president Baijayant Panda, National general secretary Dilip Saikia, MLA L Susindro and many other BJP leaders.
