Imphal, October 27 2020:
Getting Paonam Brojen elected on a Congress ticket was the biggest mistake of the Congress, declared MLA K Ranjit Singh today.
The Indian National Congress Party had backed the candidature of Paonam Brojen and helped him get elected as a Congress MLA to serve the people of Wangjing-Tentha Assembly Constituency.
He was entrusted by the voters to serve the public for a term of five years.
His resignation at this crucial period is unforgivable, said Ranjit.
Addressing a Congress workers' meet at Kairembikhok Mayai Leikai Community Hall in Wangjing-Tentha Assembly Constituency today, Ranjit questioned "what has Brojen done so far?" .
He also alleged that in the Constituency Brojen had distributed 10 kilograms of rice to BJP voters and 5 kilograms only to Congress voters.
MLA K Meghachandra Singh also criticized the present BJP-led Government for making 'false promises' to the people.
"How many educated unemployed youth in Manipur had been given jobs in this three and half years of BJP-led Government in Manipur," he asked asserting that Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh had promised jobs every year to youths in 2017 .
"What is the present status of Imphal-Jiri National Highway? The BJP-led Government had announced that the National Highway would be constructed tip-top, even fit for aeroplane to land within 100 days," he mocked.
The Congress Party had said that the BJP-led Government in Manipur could not complete all the incomplete different development projects initiated by the Congress within a five-year term.
It has come true, he said.
MLA Surjakumar Okram too launched sharp attacks at BJP and challenged the Government to make public the detailed statement of the development works taken up under the financial packages announced by the Chief Minister.
He appealed all to cast their votes for Congress candidate M Hemanta Singh in the by-election to teach a lesson to those people "who sold their rights and responsibilities by jumping parties".
MLA D Korungthang said, "Brojen, who was chosen as a leader for five years, who took the pledge to serve the people diligently, has now backed out from his responsibilities.
While people are suffering from such a vicious dilemma (COVID-19), students cannot go to school and people still cannot step outside their house to earn their living, they are forced to face this kind of election.
"Why is Chief Minister N Biren creating problems when he knows jumping parties under the 10th Schedule is prohibited...There was never a dispute between the hills and the valley.
But the BJP-led Government is frequently saying peace has finally arrived among the hill and valley people.
How can peace arrive when there was peace from the very beginning ? We never fought.
We always loved each other," he said.
He appealed to the people to shower their blessings and cast their votes for Congress candidate Moirangthem Hemanta on November 7 .
