Ukhrul, May 19 2015 :
Terming the Congress-led Government in Manipur as a Stumbling Block to development in the hill districts, Union Minister for Tribal Welfare, Government of India Jual Oram Tuesday said that the time has come for the people to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to bring about development at the grassroots level through a corruption-free governance in the state.
Addressing a Public Meeting of the saffron party held at Ukhrul Town Hall in the district headquarters in connection with the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls as Chief Guest, Oram said that the Centre is always ready to pump in any amount of money for the development of hill districts of Manipur but the Congress-led Government in the state has always stood in the way of reaching the funds to the target people.
He further said that since the State Government continues to route all development funds from the Centre, it has embezzled a better portion of the fund thereby depriving the rural poor of all sorts of development.
He then quickly added that even then if the people vote the BJP candidates onto the ADC in the coming polls to be held on 1 June, the party would ensure direct delivery of funds to all the hill districts.
"But if you vote for the same Congress, you have made a big blunder.." .
Lambasting the Congress for indulging in corruption, Oram alleged that the previous UPA Government had swindled huge public money amounting to 1, 76, 000 crores in the infamous 2G scam.
He also dismissed the allegations of religious bias hurled at the saffron party by stating that it is actually the Congress that is creating disharmony among the Christians, Muslim and Hindus in the country.
President State BJP Th Chaoba also pleaded the gathering to support the party candidates in the coming ADC polls so as to ameliorate the lives of the people in the hills.
He then accused the State Government of depriving the poor people of food grains and other commodities under PDS by not implementing the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the state.
National Executive Member BJP Tapir Gao, national Vice president Mahila A Sadra Devi, Basanta Sharma State general Secretary (Media), Premananda Sharma State general Secretary (Org) and State general Secretary (Adm) M Anishkumar Singh also attended the meeting as Guests of honour.
