Govt teacher held with brown sugar worth Rs 75 lakhs

Imphal, June 12 2012:
One and a half Kg of Brown Sugar worth around 75 lakhs in the international market was seized by Imphal West Narcotic Cell from the possession of a government Primary teacher today.
The apprehended government Primary teacher has been identified as Md Abdul Malik (50) of Thoubal Moijing Wangma, but presently residing at Hatta Golapati.
Addressing media persons in this connection at its office here today, OC of Imphal West Narcotics Cell, Th Shanti informed that Md Abdul Malik was apprehended at around 3:30 pm from North AOC following specific information.
The OC informed that the drugs seized from Md Abdul Malik were manufactured in Thoubal Moijing itself and the seizure was worth around Rs 15 lakhs per kg at Imphal.
However, if sold in the international markets, it could fetch upto Rs 50 to 60 lakhs per kg.
He pointed out that case of manufacturing brown sugar, which is equivalent to Heroin/Number 4 in the state, is a matter of serious concern.
