Imphal, February 01 2019:
Expressing strong opposition against the passing of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill and the attempt to pass the said Bill in the Rajya Sabha as well, IMC Congress Corporators staged a sit in protest at IMC gate today.
IMC Thangmeiband ward number 3 Corporator Hijam Nutanchandra, while speaking to media person on the sideline of the protest, said that the Corporators strongly denounce the passing of the Bill in the Lok Sabha on January 8 and the attempt to enact the Bill.
He conveyed that the proposition of the State Government to insert some clauses, related to Manipur, in the bill is not possible and is meant to only fool the public.
Questioning now a Bill which has already been passed in the Lok Sabha can be modified for insertion of new clauses, he demanded that the Bill should be first withdrawn and the clause should be inserted thereafter if required.
He maintained that the public will not accept any uttering of meaningless statements.
Maintaining that the Bill is meant to destroy the natives of the entire North East, the public, CSOs and students organisations are strongly against the Bill.
He cautioned that the IMC will support any movement of the public and the CSOs against the Bill.
