Imphal, October 12 2014:
Conceding that people have the absolute right to express views and opinions in a democratic country, Chief Minister O Ibobi has reiterated that Congress Ministers and MLAs have been asked not to hurl allegations to anyone during the election campaign.
'However, if the need arises, we will come out with clarifications on the allegations in public platform', the Chief Minister added.
The CM was attending a public meeting at Sekmaijin Khunou Ereima Community Hall today as part of the ongoing election campaign for Elangbam Dwijamani who is the candidate of Indian National Congress (INC) for the ensuing Hiyanglam by-election scheduled to be held on October 17 .
Asserting that people of the State are well aware of the prevailing political situation in the state, Ibobi slammed BJP for trying to fool the public by making false promises in their bid to gain political mileage.

Contending that it is the Congress party not the BJP, CPI, Trinamool Congres, MPP or MSCP which fetched independence of the country from the British colonial rule, the CM made a fervent appeal to the electorates of Hiyanglam Constituency to vote for Congress as it is the only party which believes in secularism and collective growth. If people vote for the Congress in the ensuing by-election, then the party will develop the backward Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency in the remaining two and half years term of the present Assembly, Ibobi vowed.
Attending the meeting, Deputy CM Gaikhangam who is also the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) lambasted Th Chaoba, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh for charging Congress that the party has failed to take up various developmental plans in the State.
The credibility of Congress is quite evident from the various developmental plans and projects taken up by the Congress in the past of which the people are well aware of.
The faith of people is with Congress that is why the party won 42 seats out of the total 60 in the last general assembly election, Gaikhangam asserted.
Saying that Chaoba who was a former member of Congress should be well aware of his own credentials before attacking the party, Gaikhangam disclosed that Chaoba who is now the president of BJP Manipur Pradesh once approached Congress for joining in the party which was turned down by the party.
The Dy CM said that the attempt of BJP trying to come in power in the State would go in vain as people of the State have lost faith in the party, and appealed to the electorates of Hiyanglam Constituency to vote for E Dwijamani in the ensuing by-election for bringing in development in the constituency.
Today's public meeting was also attended by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar; PHED Minister I Hemochandra; Agriculture Md Abdul Nasir; Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai; Parliamentary Secretary Prithviraj; Parliamentary Secretary Amin Shah and several other Congress MLAs.
