ISBD scientists, researchers extend helping hand at State's COVID-19 testing centres

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (ISBD), Department of Biotechnology, Takyelpat which has been supporting COVID-19 testing facilities to augment the testing capacities with the available resources and experts in the State under the guidance of its Director, Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee.
To cope up with the trained manpower shortage and as suggested by the authorities, several scientists and researchers of ISBD are lending helping hand at the COVID-19 testing centres at JNIMS and RIMS since few days back, said a press statement of the institute.
One scientist fellow, one post-doctoral fellow and one research scholar, under the guidance of Dr Nanaocha Sharma, Scientist-E, have been assisting JNIMS's VRDL while one research associate and senior research fellow under the guidance of Dr Indira Devi, Scientist-D, have been extending help at VRDL and MDRU of RIMS, Imphal, it said.
ISBD, Takyelpat, had earlier lent one RT-PCR and RNA Extraction equipment to RIMS to reduce the testing load at the institute while a RT-PCR was lent to JNIMS's testing centre besides distributing hand sanitizer, masks, face shields and drinking water to frontline workers and handing out the same at quarantine centres set up in Imphal West district, it continued.
