Imphal, December 09 2021:
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) has stated that Manipur has become a safe haven for drug lords and kingpins and the citizens of the State should not rejoice over the recent seizure of Rs 500 crore worth of drugs.
In a statement released today, CADA expressed gratitude towards Moreh Police and 43 Assam Rifles for seizing the huge consignment of crystal methamphetamine and heroin from Tengnoupal district worth over Rs 500 crore.
However, the statement also recalled the incident in 2018 wherein Chandel ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou was apprehended on drug haul related cases .
In another case in 2019, Rs 400 crore worth of contraband substances were recovered from a Myanmar citizen in Thoubal district and in both instances the culprits were allegedly set free and the cases have been buried.
CADA further stated that the "War on Drugs" campaign ought to be shut down if apprehended drug cartels continue to be released with a clean chit.
In order to save the future generations from the menace of drugs, the Government should resolve to work on this matter with sincerity, the statement said.
