AMSU takes out rally against Mon carnage

Condemning the killing of civilians by Assam Rifles in Mon district of Nagaland, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) under the aegis of North East Students' Organisation (NESO) took out a protest rally on Thursday.
Large number of students marched from AMSU head office located inside DM University campus and marched through Khoyathong, JN Manipur Dance Academy gate and ended at the office.
Slogans demanding repeal of AFSPA, 1958 and stopping killing of innocent people were shouted during the rally.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, AMSU general secretary Vikramjit Thongam demanded repeal of AFSPA from North East states.
Violating the very rights to life, around 1528 people were killed in Manipur only under the shadow of the draconian AFSPA, 1958.It does not simply hinder in bringing peace to the state but also filled the state with cries and lamentations, he denounced.
Reiterating the demand for repealing AFSPA from the entire North East states, he recalled that the present CM N Biren was also a person who took huge responsibilities for the protection of human rights.
He urged N Biren to repeal the Act while he is the chief minister of Manipur.
Strongly denouncing the inhumane act of the army in Nagaland, the secretary demanded stringent punishment of all those involved in killing innocent civilians.
He made it clear that AMSU will fully support every movement launched by NESO for repealing the black law, AFSPA.
Meanwhile, AMSU submitted a memorandum to IGAR (South) major general Alok Naresh demanding repeal of AFSPA from North-East states.
Later, in the evening, Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) and AMSU under NESU organised a candle light vigil in front of Manipur University gate extending solidarity to the people of Nagaland and condemning the Mon carnage.
