RIMS has undergone many changes over the years

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has reportedly undergone many changes in the past few years, including introduction of new departments, machines and improved patient care.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle in this regard, RIMS authority conveyed that several significant changes have been witnessed in the infrastructure, machines and patient care facilities of the institute over the years under the supervision of its director Prof A Santa Singh.
In addition to offering hygienic breakfast and dinners to the in-patients, medicines are being provided free of cost.
The testing facilities have also improved with top quality machines, provided at affordable rates, with some being offered for free.
A 32 slide (Philips) CT machine has replaced the old 64 slide (Philips) CT machine after 10 years, while 64 slide (Siemens) CT machine is on the way.
Once it arrives in the state, people can take good quality CT scan at an affordable price.
Regarding MRI machine, the institute used to have a 1 Tesla machine, which has now been upgraded to a 3 Tesla machine.
Furthermore, there are now adequate number of portable x-rays and ultra sound machine (high end), which could be taken for free of cost.
In terms of infrastructure, new buildings are being constructed, while the incomplete ones are nearing completion for providing better healthcare faculties.
On top of this, a trauma centre and a paediatric emergency facility have been opened, while three buildings of Nursing College have been constructions along with G + 3 storey PG ladies' hostel.
On the other hand, 8 seats have been added for M Sc Nursing, while that of MBBS has been increased to 125 seats, DM (nephrology) 2 seats and 1 seat PG sports medicine.
B Sc MLT and MRIT courses have also been introduced, the authority conveyed.
The hospital authority then said that efforts are being made to raise RIMS to the level of AIIMS under the supervision of Prof A Santa, who himself has stated that this could be possible with the support of the people.
