David K Shimray elected new TNL president

Ukhrul, December 09 2021:
David K Shimray was elected as the new president of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) during the presidential election of the apex customary body held here at its office in Viewland on Thursday.
Shimray; 75, defeated his lone rival Ngamreishang Tuikhar by a wide margin of 222 votes.
A total of 486 votes were cast out of the total number of 620 registered TNL Minganin (representatives).
Out of this, Shimray secured 354 votes while Tuikhar got 132 votes.
Shimray, who hails from Chingai village in northern Ukhrul, will be the 41st president of the customary body.
His rival Tuikhar is a resident of Khangkhui village.
Soon after declaration of the poll results, supporters and well-wishers of Shimray erupted in celebration.
The TNL president-elect was escorted by a crowd of people led by Chingai headman Kaphungkan from TNL office till his residence at Viewland.
Meanwhile, an official source in TNL has informed that the oath-taking and handing-over ceremony for the president-elect has been scheduled for December 15, 2021 .
The post of TNL President has been lying vacant ever since Hopingson Shimray tendered his resignation from the position on September 1 this year to contest the forthcoming State Assembly Election 2022 from 43-Phungyar Assembly Constituency.
His resignation was later approved by Longshim (assembly) of TNL on October 12 .
