Parts of World War II era British bomber B-25 Mitchell have been discovered at Theulon village under Tousem sub-division of Tamenglong district.
This was informed by the Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation Yumnam Rajeshwar when he went to Theulon village to pay floral tributes to Major General Orde Winggate who was killed when the bomber crashed at the village during the Second World War.
Apart from Major General Charles Orde Winggate, eight other people were on board the bomber including two war journalists when it crashed at Theulon on March 24, 1944 .
According to the villagers, troops of 30 Assam Rifles took away one engine of the bomber in 1980.Another engine is being kept at the village Church while other fragments of the bomber are still there in the village, Rajeshwar said.
The village has given its approval to observe the death anniversary of Major General Charles Orde Winggate every year.
