Imphal, February 13 2018:
Son of Odisha Governor Dr SC Jamir and three-time MLA from Mokokchung town Assembly Constituency C Apok Jamir urged the people not to be swayed by money or rumours but to cast their votes conscientiously in the forthcoming general elections.
Declaring his candidature on NPF Ticket today at his residence in Mokokchung town, Apok thanked his constituents for their love and confidence reposed on him all these years and at the same time apologized for not properly reciprocating their trust since he was "unfortunately placed in the Opposition" and for the few years that he was in the Government there had been a "series of political crisis in the party and Government" .
Urging the constituents to stand firm on their beliefs and principles he asked the voters not to be "swayed by money or rumours" but to vote conscientiously in the larger interest of the society and the State.
"Look beyond your grudges against me if there are any and vote for the party in whose principles and programmes you believe," he said.
Ridiculing the NDPP-BJP Alliance, Apok said the NPF was a coalition partner of the BJP earlier where the latter "played a minor role which was like the NPF shaking hands with the BJP," but the NDPP has made "BJP its bed partner and the issues sired through this alliance would be like illegal immigrants since the ideologies of the BJP are alien to the Naga ways of life" .
Moasangba Jamir, President of NPF Mokokchung Division, speaking at the ceremony, said that NPF had always stood for the Nagas and their interests.
"The NPF stood for the Naga slogan 'Solution before Election' and waited till the last moment before its declaration to participate in the elections in the best interest of the Nagas but had to follow other political parties since we do not want a repeat of 1998," Moasangba said.
Waxing eloquent for the candidate of the Constituency, Moasangba said that a leader is not made overnight since lots of factors are involved.
"However, Apok Jamir hails from a lineage of personalities renowned for leadership qualities and he is properly equipped with adequate knowledge and experience," he said.
The meeting was chaired by the President of Mokokchung AC Mr Salingpong.
Short speeches were delivered by Chubawati, Atemjenba, Alemtoshi, Toshiyabang and Aochuba.
