Imphal East district police personnel carried out cordon and search operation at Awaching (Kshetri Bengoon Mamang Ching Khunou) under Porompat PS today and detained 21 individuals, including 10 women, who failed to produce proper ID proofs apart from recovering nine stolen vehicles during the operation.
Briefing media persons at Imphal East SP conference hall, today, Imphal East SP, K Meghachandra said that around 200 individuals (including 100 females) were verified in the cordon and search operation which was carried out from 3.30 am to 6.30 am with the aim of checking the presence of unauthorised individuals and illegal activities in the area.
During the search operation, it was found that most of the people staying in the area were from other parts of the State and from Tripura as well, the SP informed, adding that around 100 individuals, who are stated to be migrant workers, were not present during the search operation by the police.
The security forces detained 21 individuals (10 of them women) who failed to produce proper identification proofs and handed them over to Porompat PS.
The SP further said that the locals of the area failed to produce even a single Patta/ land record when approached by the district police and as such the police will urge Imphal East DC to direct the authority concerned to check whether the area is a patta land or not.
On the other hand, the police team also recovered nine vehicles, including an Alto car, six motorbikes, an Activa and a Dio (all suspected to be stolen vehicles) during the drive for which the locals could not produce any proper documents when asked.
The police also recovered three single barrelled guns with expired gun licenses and 28 bullets/cartridges during the search operation and they were handed over to Porompat PS for taking up necessary action.
