Ukhrul, August 01:
Expressing concern over the plight of villagers who could not have access to PDS items in Ukhrul district, the Elders Forum Concerns (EFC) today has questioned the numbness of concerned authority saying, "it would be very awkward if the MLAs of Ukhrul district took for themselves all facilities meant for the people as if they were poorest of the poor, besides fully enjoying their own share of all privileges as MLAs".
Detailing the grievances of people who are hit hard due to unavailability of PDS items, the Forum's member secretary LM Ngaranmi said, the season stretching from May to August is the most difficult period and maintained that during this critical juncture the authority concerned should have otherwise done something so that rice could be sold at Rs 6.50 per kg in Fair Price Shop instead of the present market price (Rs 18-20 per kg).
The Forum alleged that FCI/FCS godown has not been in use for almost three years since it has been placed under physical possession of private individuals on the recommendation of few people who hold the highest posts and expressed unhappiness over the inactive efforts of FCS Minister Y Erabot towards evacuation of such essential commodities from the godown.
